We’re Co-Sponsoring a National Conference in November
Three of Our Team Members Publish Important New Books
• Seven Core Issues by Sharon Roszia and Allison Maxon
• Open Adoption and Diverse Families by Abbie Goldberg
NCAP also announced today that it is partnering with the California-based Celia Center to hold a national conference on adoption and foster care in Los Angeles on Friday, Nov. 13. The two nonprofit organizations will release more details as planning for the event proceeds. Meanwhile, please save the date. The Celia Center, led by Jeanette Yoffe, provides services and engagement to nurture and support all members of the foster-adoption constellation.
The decision to fill the gap left by DAI’s closure coincides with a variety of activities by NCAP team members,
including the publication of two important new books: “Seven Core Issues in Adoption and Permanency: A
Comprehensive Guide to Promoting Understanding and Healing in Adoption, Foster Care, Kinship Families and Third Party Reproduction” by NCAP E.D. Allison Maxon and Sharon Kaplan Roszia; and “Open Adoption and Diverse Families” by NCAP Senior Fellow Abbie Goldberg. NCAP colleagues Carol Biddle, Kathryn England Aytes, Joseph Crumbley, Michael Grand and Cindy Roe also contributed to “Seven Core Issues.”
“We’re so proud that Amanda is joining us, and we’re certain she’ll strengthen NCAP’s ability to fulfill its mission,” said Maxon. “Most of all, I’m delighted NCAP is responding to the professionals, educators, advocacy organizations, policy-makers, members of the extended family of adoption, and so many others who keep telling us how much they miss Donaldson’s work. And it makes perfect sense that we’ll be the ones to do work like that again.”
Maxon was referring to 11 of her NCAP colleagues, who came to NCAP from the Donaldson Institute several years before its closure in early 2018. They include President Adam Pertman, who headed DAI and originated/edited its publications for a dozen years before leaving to found NCAP; David Brodzinsky, Susan Livingston Smith and Jeanne Howard, who were DAI’s lead researchers and report authors before joining NCAP; Bruce Boyer, who came to NCAP after serving on DAI’s Board of Directors; and several of NCAP’s current Senior Research Fellows – Ruth McRoy, Dana Johnson, Laurie Miller, Ellen Pinderhughes, Baden and Goldberg – all of whom held the same title at DAI.
